Mara Antonoff, MD, completed her undergraduate studies with degrees in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree at the University of Minnesota, where she also completed internship and residency in General Surgery.  Dr. Antonoff completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Washington University in St Louis before the faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in 2014, where she’s currently an Associate Professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Program Director for Education.

She is the Deputy Head of Education for Surgery, and she runs the cardiothoracic surgery training program. Dr. Antonoff’s research interests include local consolidative therapy for stage IV lung cancer, tumor response to neoadjuvant therapy, pulmonary metastatic disease, and early detection of lung cancer. She is the surgical lead for several trials evaluating the role of local consolidative therapy for metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. She has authored 400 publications to date, as well as dozens of book chapters, teaching aids, and online resources.

She holds several leadership roles in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons including Chair of the STS Council on Member Engagement and its leadership Institute. She serves as the President of the Women in Thoracic Surgery. She further holds leadership roles within the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Southern Thoracic Surgery Association, the Association for Women Surgeons, the International Association for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, The European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association.  She holds Senior Editorial Board positions for the Annals of Thoracic Surgery, the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Innovations, CTSNet, and the Journal of Thoracic Disease.
